3-May- 2013, Kuwait Foreign Investment Bureau (KFIB) participated for the first time in the fifth session of Investment, Enterprise and Development Commission conference held during the period 29th April – 3rd May, 2013 at United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Headquarters in Geneva. The Commission provided the opportunity for delegations from member States and independent experts to discuss pertinent issues and policies related to FDI. This year’s session focused on two main themes: promoting entrepreneurship for productive capacity-building, and investment, innovation and technology for development.
During the conference, UNCTAD held a one-day learning event on 2 May 2013, titled “Seizing Green Investment Opportunities: The Role of IPAs” with experts from IBM Plant Location International (IBM-PLI), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) from the World Bank Group, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), as well as presentations showcasing best practices from IPAs in Spain, Sweden, Copenhagen/Denmark, and Hong Kong (China) on formulating Green FDI strategies and practices.
During this event, UNCTAD granted the Investment Promotion Award on April 29th, 2013, to Jamaica, Latvia, and Oman being the top three selected IPAs that succeeded in promoting export-oriented FDI that allowed access to and benefit from the Global value Chains (GVCs). This annual award has started since 2002.
The event witnessed the participation of 41 delegates and IPAs from various regions in the world, as well as ambassadors and ministers of commerce from some member states.
